Geirdarddiad / Etymology: Paeonia (pay-OHN-ee-uh): Named after Paeon, the physician to the gods who, in mythology, was changed into a flower by Pluto.
Geirdarddiad / Etymology: delavayi (del-uh-VAY-ee): For l’Abbé Jean Marie Delavay (1834–1895), French missionary and collector of plants in China.
Description: With large leaves divided into numerous lanceolate leaflets. Flowers to 10 centimetres in width, deep maroon with yellow stamens, with conspicuous leafy bracts.
