Geirdarddiad / Etymology: Centaurea (sen-tore-EE-uh): From the Latin word for centaur, a half man/half horse creature from Greek mythology, and probably refers in particular to Chiron, a centaur famed for his knowledge of the medicinal uses of plants.
Chiron was cured with this plant of Hercules’ arrow wound in the hoof.
Geirdarddiad / Etymology: macrocephala (mack-roe-SEFF-uh-luh): With large heads.
Description: A large, clump-forming perennial with simple or lobed leaves and yellow flower-heads 5 centimetres across opening in summer from brown buds.
