Geirdarddiad / Etymology:
Centaurea (sen-tore-EE-uh): From the Latin word for centaur, a half man/half horse creature from Greek mythology, and probably refers in particular to Chiron, a centaur famed for his knowledge of the medicinal uses of plants.
Chiron was cured with this plant of Hercules’ arrow wound in the hoof.
Geirdarddiad / Etymology:
montana (MON-tah-nuh): Of mountains.
Description:
A vigorous rhizomatous perennial forming a mat of undivided grey-green leaves, and woolly stems bearing white flower-heads, often tinged pink, in late spring and early summer.
